CES and the future of PC gaming!

This past week has unveiled a ton of new trinkets at the annual CES convention. In 2008 PC gamers have something totally new to look forward to other than dumping another $800 into a new graphics card.

The new monitors from Alienware and NEC take our PC gaming immersion to new levels. The monitors wraparound the gamer and with insane resolutions and remapping succesfully insinuate a sense of peripheral vision.

The first monitor comes from NEC. The NEC CRVD-42DWX+ DLP monitor displays in 2880×900 and sports a 10000:1 contrast ratio.

The second is from Alienware and was shown at CES running Crysis(the game no one can run). The appearance is phenomenal and has the same specs as the NEC monitor. Price was a close guarded secret but reps kept using the term, “casual gaming experience,” which leads me to believe it won’t be astronomical.

If something like this were to become mainstream for hardcore gamers I could see software developers/manufacturers getting extremely crazy. Our level of game immersion within 1st person shooters, racing and flight games stands to be extremely enhanced.
